Seattle Pacific loses in semifinals of GNAC women's soccer tournament


TUKWILA — Montana State Billings sophomore Jessie Mancilla scored her first collegiate goal to knock Seattle Pacific out of the first-ever Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament semifinals Thursday. Mancilla scored in the 66th minute to lift third-seeded MSBU to a 1-0 victory over the No. 2-seed Falcons.

The Yellowjackets advanced to Saturday's championship game, where they'll meet No. 1 seed Western Washington, which beat Western Oregon 2-0 in the other semifinal at Starfire Stadium.

Other women's soccer

Seattle University earned its first Western Athletic Conference tournament victory with a 2-1 win over Louisiana Tech in the first round. Stephanie Verdoia scored the winning goal in the 60th minute to break a 1-1 tie. The Redhawks had taken the lead in the third minute on an own goal, but L.A. Tech equalized a minute later.

Seattle U faces tournament host Utah State Friday.

Volleyball

Western Washington earned a straight-sets win over visiting Alaska Anchorage. The No. 17 Vikings (12-2) were led by Marlayna Geary's 11 kills.

• Seattle Pacific (11-11) got back to .500 with a 3-0 win over Saint Martin's at home.

Rowing

Washington's men's and women's crew programs conclude their fall distance season along with Washington State and several local and regional rowing clubs Sunday at the Head of the Lake Regatta hosted by Lake Washington Rowing Club at 8 a.m. The 3.1-mile course begins on Lake Union and makes its way through Portage Bay and the Montlake Cut before spilling out into Lake Washington.
