Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power, is known as a singer-songwriter of everything from indie rock to Delta blues, sung with the soft side of her voice. After a string of cover songs, the new album "Sun" is a statement of independence. She played every instrument on it, and wrote and recorded it herself. It's more "synthesizery" than what we've heard from her before, borrowing lyrics from rappers and drums from machines. Cat Power performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at Showbox SoDo, 1700 First Ave. S., Seattle; $29.50-$35 (888-929-7849 or www.showboxonline.com).
