Trombone Shorty brings New Orleans heritage to the Zoo

New Orleans trombone and trumpet player Troy Andrews — known as Trombone Shorty — grew up in Treme, the neighborhood where legendary jazz cornetist Buddy Bolden once could be heard blowing his horn. This illustrious neighborhood has given its name to a TV show about post-Katrina New Orleans. Like so many New Orleanians, Shorty comes from a long line of musicians — his grandfather was the singer Jesse Hill — and makes short work of distinctions between jazz, funk and R&B. Shorty is on a double bill with "sacred steel" guitarist Robert Randolph and the Family Band that is sure to rock your soul. 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Woodland Park Zoo, 601 N. 59th St., Seattle; $26 (206-548-2500 or www.zoo.org).
