Ex-Duck Brett Kingma says he'll transfer to Washington State
By Christian Caple
SPOKANE — Former Oregon guard Brett Kingma announced on his Twitter page Tuesday that he plans to transfer to Washington State to play basketball.
"Excited to go to washington state this year and continue my journey in pullman," Kingma wrote.
Washington State just completed a two-week trip to Australia, and a spokesman could not immediately confirm Kingma's transfer.
Kingma, who as a freshman last season averaged 9.8 minutes and 3.1 points, told The Seattle Times in June that he was transferring from Oregon to pursue a program that could better help him reach his potential.
Under NCAA rules, Kingma would have to sit out the 2012-13 season and would be a redshirt sophomore eligible to play in 2013-14.
Rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com as a senior at Jackson High School in Mill Creek, Kingma chose Oregon over Washington and Arizona State, among other schools offering scholarships.
Kingma, an outstanding three-point shooter, averaged 30.3 points as a senior at Jackson. He is the younger brother of Washington women's basketball star Kristi Kingma, who will be a senior next season after missing 2011-12 because of a knee injury.
