At the movies

"Total Recall": Colin Farrell stars in this remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi hit. It features Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston. It has midnight previews Thursday and opens Friday at several theaters.

"Ruby Sparks": A high-concept comedic romance starring Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, Antonio Banderas and Annette Bening. It was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris ("Little Miss Sunshine"). It opens Friday at several theaters.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days": This second sequel (based on the series of books by Jeff Kinney) features all of the key players and is set during the title character's "bummer summer." It also has midnight previews Thursday and opens Friday at several theaters.

"Dark Horse": The new film from writer/director Todd Solondz ("Happiness") is a quirky romance about a thirty-something underachiever (Jordan Gelber). It opens Friday at the Varsity Theatre.

"Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry": This documentary about Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei opens Friday at the Harvard Exit.

"Pink Ribbons, Inc.": Director Léa Pool, working from the book by Samantha King, examines the culture of breast cancer. It opens Friday at the SIFF Cinemas at the Uptown.

"Klown": A Danish comedy about a man trying to prove he'd be a good father. It opens Friday at the SIFF Cinemas at the Uptown.

"5 Broken Cameras": This new documentary looks at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It opens Friday at the SIFF Cinema at the Film Center.
