CityTarget opens in downtown Seattle | Seattle Times Newspaper

Wednesday's opening of a CityTarget store in downtown Seattle drew a steady stream of shoppers, beginning with a line of up to 20 people shortly before its 7 a.m. debut.

The store is at the base of the Newmark residential tower on Second Avenue, between Pike and Union streets. Smaller than a regular Target, it's aimed at a growing number of apartment and condo dwellers, office workers and tourists.

It covers three floors, with parking underneath, and its merchandise mix is similar to other Targets, but with some differences, such as smaller packs of toilet paper to save space.

The Seattle store is one of three CityTargets designed to help the Minneapolis-based retailer expand beyond the suburbs into central business districts. CityTargets also opened Wednesday in Chicago and Los Angeles.

The Seattle CityTarget, at 1401 Second Ave., will hold a grand-opening celebration Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
