VICTORIA, B.C. — Spokane golfer Megan Haase shot a tournament-low 1-under 70 on Tuesday to win medalist honors in the 111th Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur Championship.
Haase finished 36 holes at Bear Mountain Golf Resort at even-par 142, five strokes ahead of Kyla Inaba of Kelowna, B.C. Spokane's Chessey Thomas was another stroke back in third at 148.
Haase, a freshman-to-be at the University of Colorado, will be seeded first in match play.
In the Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, Penny Baziuk of North Saanich, B.C., claimed medalist honors by one stroke at 8-over 150. Leslie Folsom of Seattle was fourth at 154.

• Eastern Washington, coming off a 6-5 season, was picked to finish second behind Montana State this fall in a preseason poll of Big Sky Conference football coaches and media.
• Amadou Koundoul, an assistant at Duquesne last season, has been added to the Seattle University men's basketball coaching staff for the Redhawks' first season in the Western Athletic Conference. Koundoul, a 32-year-old native of Senegal, played for Vincennes and Cleveland State.
