Slow: Butoh dancers ahead at DAIPANbutoh's '30/30'

The butoh-inspired component of the Seattle dance scene hits the stage this weekend — sl-o-o-o-o-wly, as the Japanese dance form demands — with DAIPANbutoh's "30/30," a showcase of new pieces by (shown in photo clockwise from bottom left) Diana Garcia-Snyder, Sheri Brown, Helen Thorsen and Joan Laage. Brown, a heady and sometimes humorous performer, collaborates on a mathematics-infused multimedia piece, "Divided by Zero," with Garcia-Snyder, Eunsu Kang and Donald Craig on Friday, while the always-arresting Laage joins forces with Seattle composer-pianist Stephen Fandrich on Saturday. Danse Perdue and Mary Cutrera are also part of the weekend's lineup. 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Velocity Dance Center, 1621 12th Ave., Seattle; $15-$20 (800-838-3006 or www.brownpapertickets.com).
