Michael Ricci was appointed chief executive of Discover Books, formerly Thrift Recycling Management, Seattle.

Ricci, a veteran of the technology and telecommunications industries, will oversee the book collection and online resell organization that diverts books from landfills and supports literacy efforts through donations of free reading materials.

Assisted Living: Michael Grisar was named senior vice president of operations at Aegis Living, Redmond.

Banking: Jeff Miller was hired as vice president and commercial relationship manager at Umpqua Bank's Seattle commercial banking center. Jim Angell joined Peoples Bank, Seattle, as a business services representative. Tammy Hanson was promoted to executive vice president of operations, and Cheryl Gunderson to executive vice president and chief lending officer at Fortune Bank, Seattle

Commercial real estate: Craig Hill, Sandra Hill and Janet Reese Backus joined NAI Puget Sound Properties' office in Seattle.

Convention Centers: Bennish Brown was named president and chief executive of the Tacoma Regional Convention + Visitor Bureau.

Engineering: Andy Tu was hired as senior design engineer, Jerry Lee as design engineer and Dave Youngblood as CAD designer at Cary Kopczynski & Co., Bellevue.

Health Care: Dr. Loryn Peterson and Dr. F. Ames Smith Jr. joined The Polyclinic, Seattle. Annika Andrews was named president of SCCA (Seattle Cancer Care Alliance) Proton Therapy at ProCure Treatment Centers, Seattle.

Law: Jeffrey Pepe joined Seed IP Law Group, Seattle. Michael Rosato joined Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati, Seattle. Jackie Unger joined Carney Badley Spellman, Seattle. Brian Danzig joined Gordon Thomas Honeywell, Seattle. Shaun Watchie Perry joined Inslee Best Doezie & Ryder, Bellevue. Jeffrey Coopersmith joined Davis Wright Tremaine, Seattle.

Nonprofit: Stephanie Tschida was named executive director at Urban ArtWorks, Seattle.

Technology: Nathan Fong was named chief financial officer at Motricity, Bellevue.
