Two years after making his major-league debut with the Mariners, A-Rod was a major force both on and off the field for Seattle. "Magic or not, this is where the championship begins," Rodriguez said on Sept. 19, 1996, as Seattle solidified its place in the playoffs that season. "Our focus is to stay strong, stay intense - or else all we've accomplished is wasted. If luck is a part of that, we hope that stays, too."
