When the American League All-Star team is introduced Tuesday night at Safeco Field, eight Mariners will take the field, plus Lou Piniella, who will serve as a coach on Joe Torre's staff. Four of the Mariners - Ichiro, John Olerud, Bret Boone and Edgar Martinez - were selected as starters by the fans. This is the largest group the Mariners have sent to an All-Star game, topping their contingents of five for the 1996 and 1997 games. This gallery features the six Mariners originally selected by Torre. Mariners pitcher Jeff Nelson and outfielder Mike Cameron were later added as reserves when other players pulled out because of injuries.
