Official bowl schedule released

The official bowl schedule for the 2013-14 season was released this morning.

Here it is.

To make clear, the Pac-12 bowl agreements are the same for 2013 as they were in 2012, so nothing really different at all in terms of where UW --- or any other conference team --- could end up.

One slight change is that the opponent in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl is BYU (assuming it gets bowl eligible and then is not BCS eligible). The opponent in that game last year was Navy.

And obviously dates and some names are different than a year ago.

Some of the Pac-12's bowl agreements run out after the 2013 season, so you could see some change in some of the conference's bowls after this year. Here's a recent story on one bowl that the Pac-12 is reportedly negotiating with for down the road.

Don't worry Husky football fans, we'll have you covered

Don't worry Husky football fans, we're on it.

Since we announced May 1 that longtime Washington reporter and blogger Bob Condotta would move to the Seahawks beat, you've wondered who will replace him. More recently, we've received emails and comments on the Husky football blog wondering why it's taking so long and worrying about his replacement.

Your response is a testament to the great coverage that The Seattle Times has given Husky football over the years, particularly since Bob launched the Husky Football Blog several years ago as one of our first online forays. Bob's coverage was so thorough and so appreciated by Washington and Pac-12 fans, you're worried about what comes next.

So my challenge is to find Condotta 2.0. And that's what I intend to do. I'm screening and interviewing candidates now and plan to have a replacement chosen in the next few weeks. I'm moving as quickly as we can because I know how important UW football coverage is to our readers, both in print and online. Yet I want to take enough time to hire the best possible reporter.

It's also worth noting that Bob moved to the Seahawks beat willingly. He had covered UW football at two newspapers and had not missed a Husky game for 16 years, so he was ready for a new challenge. I truly believed Bob had earned that chance and was happy to give it to him.

Also worth noting is that this is a very quiet period for Husky football. Spring football has ended and fall practice won't begin until August, so except for an occasional recruiting story or an update on a player's eligibility or injury status, there isn't much to write about right now. Even if Bob were still on the UW beat, he wouldn't be posting often.

If there is news, we'll be all over it. Percy Allen, who covers UW men's basketball and will continue to share the Husky football beat with whomever we hire, is monitoring things closely. The fact that we assign two beat reporters to cover UW football shows how seriously we take Husky sports.

So don't worry, Husky fans, we'll have a reporter in place soon, someone who will scratch your itch for UW football coverage in plenty of time for fall practice. As a former Husky football reporter myself and someone who covered my first Apple Cup in 1974, I realize this is a top priority. It's as important to me as it is to you.

I'll announce our decision on the Take 2 and Husky Football blogs soon. In the meantime, let me know if you have suggestions on stories we should write or different ways to cover the beat

Thank you for your patience and for making The Seattle Times your trusted source for Washington football news.

Seferian-Jenkins legal update

UW tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence in April, had a pre-trail hearing in Seattle Municipal Court today postponed until July 1.

Defense attorney Bill Kirk asked for the delay and a release of a $1,000 bail on the condition that Seferian-Jenkins abstain from drinking and not drive without an Ignition Interlock Device.

Seferian-Jenkins was indefinitely suspended from all official football activities after he was arrested on March 9.

UW coach Steve Sarkisian has said he was waiting for the legal process to play out before deciding on a further punishment for Seferian-Jenkins, who is expected to be one of the top tight ends in the nation in 2013.

UW begins its season Aug. 31 against Boise State in the first game in the newly-renovated Husky Stadium.
