A Seattle native, she attended University of Oregon, where she received a degree in journalism and communications and a minor in business.

Previously, he reported on the global energy industry from Houston for Dow Jones Newswires, after a stint at the Dallas Morning News' Spanish-language publication, Al Dia. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, he has a bachelor's degree from the University of Paris and obtained master's degrees in journalism and Latin American studies from UC Berkeley.

Before that he was an assistant metro editor with responsibilities for science, medical, environmental and technology coverage. He also has worked in the features section as an editor. Earlier, he was an editor at Advertising Age and has also worked as an editor and business manager of a startup city and regional magazine in Chicago.
