5 Seattle favorites: Where to catch a movie

The best movie theater is, of course, the one that is playing the movie you want to see. (And, in the heat of summer, one that is air-conditioned.) Plenty of cinemas, here in town and beyond, fit that bill; here are five of my favorites.

Cinerama: Because everything looks better on that giant screen, and because everyone should try the chocolate popcorn at least once. (2100 Fourth Ave., Seattle; cinerama.com)

Harvard Exit: Because Landmark always has interesting programming, and who doesn’t love that living-room lobby? (807 E. Roy St., Seattle; landmarktheatres.com)

Lincoln Square Cinemas: Because the screens are big, the parking is free, and you might see something here that isn’t playing anywhere else on the Eastside. (700 Bellevue Way N.E., Bellevue; cinemark.com)

Rose Theatre: in Port Townsend: Because it’s a century-old restored gem, with a new jewel-box theater on the top floor, and makes for a great movie break on a weekend out of town. (235 Taylor St., Port Townsend; rosetheatre.com)

Sundance Cinemas: Because the movies are thoughtfully chosen, the wineglasses fit in the cup holders, and doesn’t everyone need a kid-free evening now and then? (It’s 21-and-over. And yes, it’s a bit pricey, but the lounge is a treat.) (4500 Ninth Ave. N.E., Seattle; sundancecinemas.com)
