You can never get enough light in the dark of December. Here are four more Washington and Oregon places that light up for holidays:
Leavenworth Christmas Lighting
This former logging town reinvented as a Bavarian-style village revels in Christmas. Three big weekend events, highlighted by weekly tree-lighting ceremonies, live musical performances and other festivities are on Dec 2-4, Dec. 9-11 and Dec. 16-18.
The town morphs into a Christmas fantasy, with buildings outlined in lights and the trees around town decorated. Even the light poles are decorated with snowflakes. More info: 509-548-5807 or www.leavenworth.org/
Warm Beach Lights of Christmas
An hour's drive north from Seattle, Warm Beach Christian Camps and Conference Center in Stanwood lights up its 15-acre campus with more than 1 million Christmas lights.
For 20 days in December (open on Dec. 1-4, 8-11, 15-23 and 26-28), visitors can check out the carolers and other live entertainment on five stages. Ride the Polar Express Train, take in a Christmas theme dinner theater and stroll the grounds where the air is filled with carolers and the laughter of Santa. There's also a petting zoo and pony rides. Warm Beach Christian Camps and Conference Center, 800 228-6724 or www.warmbeach.com/index.php/lights-of-christmas
The Grotto Festival of Lights, Portland
Billed as the world's largest choral festival, The Grotto Festival of Lights features 170 concerts performed by the region's top choirs and churches, with 500,000 lights and Nativity displays spread across its 62-acre garden and Catholic shrine near downtown Portland. The festival runs through Dec. 30 (closed on Christmas Day). Five concerts held daily. 503-261-2400 or www.thegrotto.org/events/lights.htm
Winter Wonderland, Portland
The Winter Wonderland light show at The Portland International Raceway allows visitors to take their vehicles onto the drag-racing course and peek at the 250 Christmas displays such as "The 12 Days of Christmas" theme decorations and the 150-foot-high glowing dinosaur. The 1.9-mile track will glow with 500,000 lights. There are special nights, too, including a bike night, decorated-truck night, run night and a walk-your-dog night.
