Northwest Airlines drops Seattle-London nonstop flight
Northwest Airlines is dropping its Seattle-London nonstop flight from Jan. 8; Heathrow landing slot will go to more profitable route.

Northwest Airlines will drop its daily nonstop flight between Seattle and London on Jan. 8.
The service from Sea-Tac Airport began less than six months ago, on June 1. Anthony Black, a spokesman for Delta Air Lines which recently acquired Northwest, said Thursday the landing slot at London's Heathrow Airport is being allocated to "a more profitable route."
Airlines are trying to maximize their international flights, which earn them more than domestic routes, especially to major airports such as Heathrow where landing slots are limited.
Passengers who hold tickets for Northwest's Seattle-London nonstop flights from Jan. 8 on should contact the airline to rebook.
Nonstop service to London from Seattle remains available on British Airways.
