Summer travel deals

We put out the word in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, looking for summer travel deals. And we received lots of them ...

SUCH DEALS!

We'd be remiss if we didn't present a couple of deals for the, er, well-heeled set.

Like these:

• Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, is offering a jet-fuel rebate for private air travel.

Guests who arrive by private jet will be entitled to a rebate of as much as $1 per gallon on all purchases, up to 1,000 gallons, which then can be applied to accommodations, golf, marina rentals, spa treatments, dinner and more.

• Don't have your own jet? Well, problem solved.

Fly with Abercrombie & Kent in its own, 52-passenger Boeing 757, reconfigured for your comfort, in a trip around the world. The Emperors and Pharaohs Tour stops at Malta, Hanoi, Jaipur, Cairo and Istanbul, just to name a few cities.

It's a bargain — at $88,500 per person. Just you? There's a $8,925 single supplement.

CLOSE TO HOME

Alaska earned its statehood in Congress 50 years ago. Stanton Patty, a former Seattle Times Travel assistant editor, was born and raised there and remembers the celebrations here.

ANOTHER BUZZWORD

If you can't afford to take any kind of "vacation" far away from home this year, you are a perfect candidate for this summer's travel invention, the "Staycation." Meaning, you're spending your time off close to home.

We don't know who coined the word — no doubt some desperate public-relations person representing a desperate client wanting to find a way to capitalize on desperate travelers.

Watch for it in every travel publication near you.

Travel deals for California and Washington

Washington and California keep running lists of deals.

For Washington, go to experiencewa.com and click on "Deals."

California lists its travel deals at: www.visitcalifornia.com/summerdeals

We put out the word in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, looking for summer travel deals. And we received lots of them — sent to us from hotels, resorts, restaurants, you name it. We even have a few summer deals from farther away.

Our goal is to give you some idea of the savings you might find as you travel in a time of pricey gas, food and airlines.

As always, as you read through these, be skeptical — remember that these are not our deals, but those submitted to us by business owners, public relations offices and readers. So ask questions when you book. Double check everything. If you have the time, do your own research to see if there are other, better deals available. Remember that many of these have caveats — minimum stays, required facility tours, etc.

A much longer list of deals is online at seattletimes.com/travel, because we simply don't have the space here for all of them.

Here is just a portion of the summer deals we've received:
