The Alaskan Way Viaduct will close this weekend between the West Seattle Bridge and the Battery Street Tunnel so crews can make room for the construction of one of its replacement spans, according to a news release for the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Both directions of the viaduct between the West Seattle Bridge and Battery Street Tunnel will close at 5 a.m. Saturday. The closure was originally scheduled to start at 11 p.m. Friday. Northbound lanes at South Royal Brougham Way will reopen at 10.a.m. Saturday, but the remaining sections of the highway will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday.

Drivers heading to Qwest Field for the Sounders FC match Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, should plan for delays and use alternate routes.
