Snow to come later and melt by Wednesday
Posted by Susan Gilmore
It will snow in Seattle tonight. But when it starts is still uncertain.
The National Weather Service has a snow advisory from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. but meterologist Jeff Michalski said the snow may not begin until tonight, even as late as midnight.
He said the weather service has two forecasts, one that says snow will fall between 9 p.m. and midnight and the other that said it could begin as early at 5 p.m., which could aggravate the evening commute."We sometimes get burned by that," he said of the conflicting forecasts,"but definitely before midnight we'll see some light snow."
The weather service is predicting one to three inches of snow will fall on the Seattle area, with the heaviest amount in Kitsap County and the Hood Canal area.
Michalski said warmer areas that moved in overnight may limit the snowfall here.
What isn't in dispute is warmer air will move in overnight, turning the snow to rain and melting any snow that may fall. He said tomorrow morning's commute should be no problem.
"Be prepared," said Michalski. "Sometime this evening we'll see some snow."
