Posted by John de Leon
The Grays Harbor Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate at Stafford Creek Corrections Center near Aberdeen.
The inmate, Daniel Johnson, 54, was found in his cell unconscious with a bag over his head Wednesday morning. The prison's medical staff was unable to resuscitate him and a staff physician pronounced Johnson dead at 8:51 a.m.
Stafford Creek will conduct a separate investigation to determine what happened.
Johnson began his prison sentence in 1993 after he was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder in Lewis County. He was scheduled to complete his prison sentence in March 2015.
Johnson had been at Stafford Creek since May 2010 when he was transferred from McNeil Island Corrections Center.
Stafford Creek houses about 2,000 offenders in minimum-, medium, and maximum-custody living units. -
