Couple found dead in national forest committed suicide

Posted by John de Leon

-- From Times staff reporter Mike Carter:

A man and woman whose bodies were found Tuesday in a makeshift campground east of Granite Falls had committed suicide, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office.

The couple, a husband and wife, both died of gunshot wounds, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. Their ages and identities were not immediately released.

Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, said the deaths were not the result of foul play. She said two handguns were recovered at the scene.

It appears the couple had a vehicle parked nearby, Hover said.

The bodies were discovered Tuesday morning near an area known as the Red Bridge campground, an informal camping spot about 18 miles east of Granite Falls.
