UPDATE: Trapped window washers pulled to safety
Posted by John de Leon
-- From Times staff reporter Jack Broom:
Two window washers whose platform got stuck near the top of a 35-floor skyscraper in downtown Seattle late Wednesday morning were pulled to safety about 12:35 p.m. by Seattle firefighters.
An emergency call came in about 11:40 a.m. that the pair of window cleaners were stuck about 20 feet from the top of the Sheraton Hotel about on the Sixth Avenue side between Pine and Union streets. How their platform got stuck wasn't immediately known.
Fire Department rescuers were lowered from the hotel rooftop to retrieve the stranded workers and everyone was safely pulled to the top of the building.
The street below was closed for about an hour during the ordeal. A small crowd that had gathered at the base of the building cheered when the second man was pulled to safety.
