Big paintings at Bryan Ohno

advertising

Canvases you can’t ignore — they are just too big — are covering the walls at Bryan Ohno Gallery in the gallery’s current show, “Big Painting.” Shown here is “Honoh,” by Bokuden Matsuda, whose works populate the exhibition with those by Lisa Buchanan and Larry Bemm. Fans of Matsuda’s work may remember his performance and workshop of abstract calligraphy, or Zenei-shoka, at Seattle Asian Art Museum in 2000. (Those works were really big, too.) Ohno has known Matsuda since the 1990s, when they began sharing appreciation of Chinese characters and their long, rich history. “Big Painting” is up 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays through May 24, 521 S. Main St., Seattle (206-459-6857 or www.bryanohno.com).
