ACT’s ‘Bethany’: hard times, hard choices
The struggles of a working woman to keep a roof over her head and win back custody of her child after losing her house to foreclosure is the subject of “Bethany,” an Off Broadway play by Laura Marks, which has its Seattle debut this week at ACT Theatre. In John Langs’ staging, Emily Chisholm (shown here) plays the hardworking and recession-besieged Crystal, and Darragh Kennan (also shown) is Gary, a homeless man she reluctantly accepts as her new roommate. “Bethany” previews through Wednesday, April 16, and plays Thursday, April 17, through Sunday, May 4, at ACT Theatre, 700 Union St., Seattle (206-292-7676 or acttheatre.org).
