The sound of the northern lights
Immerse yourself in sounds inspired by the aurora borealis, as composers Nat Evans and John Teske open their “Space Weather Listening Booth” to the public and to musicians who’ll play along live to the electronic score, March 17, 2013.
‘Space Weather Listening Booth’
Nat Evans, who’s dreamed up electronic scores to accompany sunrises and sunsets, has joined forces with experimental composer/double bassist John Teske, to write a soundtrack inspired by another planetary phenomenon: the aurora borealis.
“Space Weather Listening Booth” is, Evans says, a “northern-lights-inspired sound installation” that will be presented at its full 50-minute length as part of Internet-based Hollow Earth Radio’s Magma Festival (billed as “a forum for underrepresented sounds and perspectives”).
The event takes place at the radio station and will feature various live performers improvising with the Evans/Teske electronic score.
“Audience members,” Evans writes, “are encouraged to bring pillows, sleeping bags, blankets, etc., for maximum enjoyment of the immersive surround-sound experience.” The show can be heard live at www.hollowearthradio.org.
