Affordable Art Fair arrives in Seattle Nov. 8-11, 2012

Launched in 1999, the Affordable Art Fair aims to link art fans with artists and galleries. It gets its Seattle debut Nov. 8-11, 2012, at Seattle Center.

London, Los Angeles, Stockholm and New York have all had theirs — now it's Seattle's turn to host an Affordable Art Fair next week.

Here's how it works: 50 galleries from the Pacific Northwest and beyond have been selected to bring works to the fair. Contemporary paintings, prints, sculptures and photographs will all be priced at $100-$10,000. (Exhibitors are required to price half the works at less than $5,000.) All prices are shown, including sales tax, and there are no hidden commissions, organizers said.

Along with art shopping, the fair offers daily children's activities, a café and workshops, lectures and tours. A highlight: daily printing demonstrations by Sheila Coppola of Tukwila's Sidereal Fine Art Press, who will print small-etched plates by Fay Jones, Robert Jones, Claire Cowie and Jeffry Mitchell, among others.

All fair activities will be held in Seattle Center's Exhibition Hall.

A preview party is 6-10 p.m. Thursday, $65, and an Artist Trust fundraiser and reception is 5-9 p.m. Nov. 9, $25. General hours: noon-5 p.m. Nov. 9; 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 10; and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 11; $12 general admission ( Note: students and seniors pay $10, but I.D. must be shown at the door and no advance purchase is available.
