According to a recent story in the entertainment magazine Variety, Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre may present the August 2013 world-premiere run of the Broadway-bound "Secondhand Lions," a new musical based on the 2003 movie of the same title. A 5th Avenue representative says the company is in negotiations to present the show but no deal is confirmed.

The musical version of "Secondhand Lions" is written by Rupert Homes ("The Mystery of Edwin Drood"). The score is by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, whose previous show "First Date" debuted at ACT Theatre earlier this year in a hit ACT-5th Avenue production.

The film "Secondhand Lions" starred Haley Joel Osment as a shy youth spending a coming-of-age summer in Texas with his eccentric uncles (played by Michael Caine and Robert Duvall), who ply him with colorful tales from their wild younger days.

Zachary and Weiner recently told BroadwayWorld.com that their score for the show has a "broad country palette — classic Western film score music to Patsy Cline ballads to bluegrass and rhythm and blues."
