Bellevue teen wins Stradivarius competition's junior division

Marié Rossano, 16, of Bellevue, was named first laureate in the junior division of the Stradivarius International Competition.

Marié Rossano, of Bellevue, was named first laureate in the junior division of the Stradivarius International Competition, held recently in Salt Lake City. Marié, 16, was chosen from 15 semifinalists after surmounting the challenging application process. She won $7,500 and an appearance with the Utah Symphony.

The jury included Andres Cardenes, concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and Nicholas Mann, chair of the Manhattan School of Music string department.

The teen is no stranger to symphonic performance; she appeared with the Seattle Symphony at 13 and has been on stage with groups such as the Ottawa Chamber Symphony, Philharmonia Northwest, Bellevue Philharmonic and Federal Way Symphony. She's the winner of Seattle Philharmonic's 2010 Don Bushell Concerto Competition, and was chosen for the Seattle Chamber Music Society's "Emerging Artists" concert in 2007. She started taking violin lessons as a preschooler.
