Arts income down, attendance steady
Income for arts and cultural organizations in the Puget Sound area went down over the past year but attendance held steady.
Income for arts and cultural organizations in the Puget Sound area went down over the past year but attendance held steady or went up, according to a study released Wednesday by ArtsFund, which raises money for the arts.
The greatest drop in income was from corporations and foundations, while half of the 72 groups surveyed said income from ticket sales also went down.
Generally higher attendance and lower ticket revenue shows demand remains strong but that patrons are buying lower-cost tickets, the study said.
A parallel study conducted by the Washington State Arts Commission, also released Wednesday, had similar findings.
