Intiman's Bartlett Sher to direct "Othello," join Lincoln Center

Bartlett Sher, artistic director at Seattle's Tony-winning Intiman Theatre, will direct Shakespeare's "Othello" next season. And more Sher news: He has been named Resident Director at the Lincoln Center Theatre in New York.

Intiman Theatre artistic director Bartlett Sher will stage his first production of Shakespeare's "Othello," a new addition to Intiman's 2009 season.

Also, Intiman announced that Sher has been named Resident Director at New York's Lincoln Center Theatre, where he has staged acclaimed productions of the musicals "The Light in the Piazza" and "South Pacific."

Sher's role at Lincoln Center will include directing a production each season and consulting with the company's artistic head, Andre Bishop. He will also continue to serve as artistic honcho of Intiman.

Dates and casting for "Othello" and the rest of the Intiman 2009 season — which includes an adaptation of "Crime and Punishment," the Herb Gardner comedy "A Thousand Clowns" and Joan Didion's "The Year of Magical Thinking" — will come later. Details: 206-269-1900 or www.intiman.org.
