‘2014 MTV Video Music Awards’

The annual music-video awards show (it’s the one with the Moonman statuette) hits the airwaves with a list of performers and guests that includes Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, on MTV, VH1 and Logo (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).

“Masterpiece Mystery!,” 9 p.m. (KCTS): “Breathless, Part 1” — Otto, a married surgeon, is attracted to a new nurse named Angela; Jean and Richard’s marriage gets off to a rocky start; Elizabeth receives a menacing message.

“True Blood,” 9 p.m. (HBO): Sookie weighs a future with and without Bill; Eric and Pam struggle with their partnership with Mr. Gus; Sam makes a choice; Andy receives an unexpected inheritance.

“Reckless,” 10 p.m. (CBS): Roy puts his position at the law firm at risk and threatens his family’s reputation when he defends his high-school sweetheart against murder charges; Lee Anne tries to end things with Terry for good.

“Falling Skies,” 10:01 p.m. (TNT): Tom and the 2nd Mass learn to pilot a Beamer as part of their plan to destroy the Espheni power core; the group draws straws to see who will embark on a dangerous mission; the threat of death triggers confrontations.
