‘Defiance’

The year is 2046, and it’s a new Earth. Alien races now live among humans, and the city of St. Louis is now called Defiance. That’s the premise of this big deal, very expensive-looking, new sci-fi series starring Grant Bowler, Stephanie Leonidas and Julie Benz. Series premiere, 9 p.m. on Syfy (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).

“The Voice,” 8 p.m. (NBC): The battle rounds begin; advisers Hillary Scott, Pharrell Williams, Sheryl Crow and Joel Madden help the coaches decide which artists to keep.

“Rules of Engagement,” 8:30 p.m. (CBS): A healthy cooking class turns into a competition between Jen and Audrey; Russell’s new girlfriend bears a resemblance to Timmy.

“90210,” 9 p.m. (CW): When Naomi is hired to plan a launch party for Author X, Annie is forced to make a confession; Silver worries that her relationship with Mark is upsetting Adrianna; Dixon realizes Michaela has feelings for Navid.

“Dallas,” 10 p.m. (TNT): The Ewings unite to execute J.R.’s master plan; each of the family members tries to ensure the plan’s success; J.R.’s killer is revealed.

“Castle,” 10:01 p.m. (ABC): Beckett and Castle discover giant footprints at the site of a vicious murder, leading the team to wonder if Bigfoot is the killer.
