‘The Neighbors’

Although the networks haven’t officially announced their fall schedules, let’s hope this nutty comedy — about a very human family whose members discover their neighbors are from another planet — will return for a second season. If for no other reason that to see how the Weavers (wonderfully played by Jami Gertz and Lenny Venito) continue to cope with — and educate — aliens who’ve taken on the names Larry Bird, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Dick Butkus. The season finale features guest stars George Takei and Mark Hamill. 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on ABC (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).

“Survivor: Caramoan,” 8 p.m. (CBS): As the Bikal tribe members struggle in challenges, they become increasingly frustrated with Phillip’s attitude; Reynold shares information that could change the game.

“Whitney,” 8:30 p.m. (NBC): Whitney decides to investigate when she sees her psychiatrist eating a birthday cake by herself; Roxanne admits her feelings for Mark.

“Nova,” 9 p.m. (KCTS): “Russian Meteor Strike”: Scientists hunt for debris from the 7,000-ton asteroid that crashed in Russia, searching for clues to its origin and makeup; a review of past explosions, from Tunguska to the asteroid that extinguished the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

“Supernatural,” 9 p.m. (CW): Dean and Sam are surprised when they learn that Krissy Chambers was involved in some recent vampire deaths.

“Polar Bears: Edge of Existence,” 9 p.m. (Animal Planet): Wildlife filmmaker Gordon Buchanan infiltrates a family of polar bears and documents the cubs’ epic struggle for survival.

“Southland,” 10 p.m. (TNT): John takes drastic measures to try to save Hicks; Sammy’s lie weighs heavily on his conscience.
