‘Pioneers of Television’

This great PBS-documentary series returns for a third season with a new episode that looks at the first female stand-up comics to appear on television (including Phyllis Diller and Joan Rivers), and others who have helped shape the medium. Also featured are Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, Marla Gibbs, Carol Burnett, Tina Fey and Margaret Cho. 8 p.m. Tuesday on KCTS (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).

“Parenthood,” 10 p.m. (NBC): Joel and Julia consider the long-term effects of adopting Victor; Jasmine and Crosby are frustrated when Renee oversteps her boundaries; Hank is concerned when Mark and Sarah have a talk about their relationship.

“Justified,” 10 p.m. (FX): Raylan tangles with a dangerous family keeping a dark secret; Boyd takes on a snake-handling preacher.
