Vonn out of slalom, misses gate in first run
Posted by Meri-Jo Borzilleri
Lindsey Vonn's Olympics are over after she slid on a gate and then straddled the next one in the first run of slalom Friday morning.
Skiing in moderate snowfall and fog, Vonn started 10th and was chasing good friend Maria Riesch of Germany, who ran fifth and had the best time through the first 17 skiers.
Skiing with a broken small finger on her right hand and injuries that included a severely bruised shin and aching back, Vonn skied off the course after missing the gate on the top third of the run.
Vonn leaves the 2010 Olympics with a gold in downhill and bronze in the super-G. She has not finished the last three races she entered, crashing in the first run of Wednesday's giant slalom and in the slalom portion of the combined while leading after the downhill.
