Take 2 — London Calling
Seattle Times readers who are traveling to London for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games are taking over our Take 2 blog to share their Olympic experiences from the United Kingdom.
On target with Olympic archery
We went to see the archery at Lord's Cricket Ground, in northwest London. I was a bit dubious when my husband purchased archery tickets over gymnastics but, as time has passed, I have seen the light!
The seats in the venue are set out to give every spectator a bird's-eye view. The targets are an overwhelming 70 meters away from where the archers stand. I hear the U.S. and several Asian teams are a force to be reckoned with; my husband says they're the best.
The men's archery started at 9:00 on the nose. And then it was over far too quickly.
It was a very good atmosphere in Lord's. Families, singles, couples, a little boy dressed as Robin Hood, all types. The standouts were the Mexican squad who received fabulous support from the ladies squad. Very good support, quite raucous even!
Watching archery was both interesting and exciting. It's a numbers game; he who scores most wins. I really wanted to see the USA, but hey, ho!
After the event we walked up the road to find a pub. We were sitting in the sun relaxing with a drink when we couldn't help but see Michelle Obama’s massive entourage go by. She knows how to travel!
