Run to benefit Karelian Bear Dogs, egg hunts and other pet events
Kick off spring with a 5K run, an egg hunt for canines or one of the other pet events in this roundup.

Karelian Bear Dog 5K Run: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. March 23, Mill Creek Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, 16018 Mill Creek Blvd., Mill Creek. Dog-friendly run benefits the Karelian Bear Dog Program. The dogs work with handlers to help resolve bear-human conflicts. The program also hopes to use the specially trained dogs in other wildlife work. At the event, pet-food donations will be collected for animals at PAWS . The dogs are part of PAWS' black bear release program. Race-day registration is $35. For details, see the website.
"When Your Dog has Cancer" book signing and fundraiser: 3-6 p.m. March 23, Northwest Cellars, 11909 124th Ave. N.E. Kirkland. Lola Ball, author of "When Your Dog has Cancer: Making the Right Decisions for You and Your Dog" will be at the book-signing and wine-tasting event benefiting Pasado's Safe Haven and AHELP (The Animal Hospice and End-of-Life Palliative Care Project). $15 donation at the door.
Dog-Gone Easter Egg Hunt: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. March 30, Regional Athletic Center, Lacey. Dogs on leash hunt for plastic eggs at this event benefiting Old Dog Haven, Feline Friends and Concern for Animals. There will be vendor booths and demonstrations of dog sports. Hunt is $3 per adult. Fashion show is $3 per dog. For details, see the Pet Connection Magazine website.
Animal Adventure Camp: Seattle Humane Society, 13212 S.E. Eastgate Way, Bellevue. Registration is under way for Seattle Humane's summer program for kids ages 7-12. Participants meet and learn about pets, take part in pet training and other activities. The five-day camp is $205. (There is one four-day camp for $164.) Scholarships are available. The first camp starts on June 24. See the website for details on start dates for the different age groups.
Chihuahua adoptions: Through March 31, Seattle Humane Society, 13212 S.E. Eastgate Way, Bellevue. $50 off adoption fees on Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes at least a year old. Dogs at Seattle Humane are behavior-tested, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and have a microchip ID. Most dog adoptions also include six weeks of training in a behavior course.
