UPDATE: Huge pet-treat recall
The Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday that all pet treats made at Kasel Industries' Denver plant from April 12 through Sept. 19 have been voluntarily recalled because of possible salmonella contamination.
The items, which range from chicken jerky to pig ears to hearts of lamb, were sold in Target, Costco, Sam's Club and through its website.
Kasel is recalling Boots & Barkley, BIXBI, Nature's Deli, Colorado Naturals, Petco, and Best Bully Stick items. Lot numbers and more information can be found here.
The FDA also announced Wednesday that Nutri-Vet, of Boise, is voluntarily recalling its Nutri-Vet and NutriPet chicken jerky products because of possible salmonella contamination. The recalled treats were distributed nationwide through online sales and in retail stores from April 2012 through February 2013 with Best By Dates ranging from April 20, 2014, through October 3, 2014. Lot numbers and more information can be found here.
Salmonella can sicken animals that eat these products, and humans are at risk for salmonella poisoning from handling contaminated pet products.
