Pet events: Fuzzy Valentines, Woof Walk and a costume contest

If you've got room in your heart to love and care for a rabbit, cat or dog, check the sweet Valentine-themed deals being offered by several pet organizations and shelters. February's events also include a dog-friendly walk, a guinea pig and rabbit show, an assistance dog workshop and pet portraits.

Woof Walk: 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Feb. 9, Robinswood Community Park, 2340 148th Ave. S.E., Bellevue. Clip the leash on the pooch and join Bellevue Parks rangers for a free guided walk. Meet at Robinswood House in the park.

Fabulous Felines: Noon-3 p.m. Feb. 9, Greenwood Mud Bay, 8532 First Ave. N.W., Seattle. Adoptable kittens and cats of different breeds will be at this Seattle Animal Shelter event. Adoption prices, $35-$145 (plus applicable license fees), include initial vaccinations, deworming, spaying or neutering, microchip ID and more.

Valentine's Day Adoption Special: Feb. 9-24, PAWS, 15305 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood; and PAWS Cat City, 5200 Roosevelt Way N.E., Suite B, Seattle. PAWS is offing $25 off adoption fees for select animals. Links to photos of some of the cats and dogs are on the organization's blog and website.

Cupid's Critters, Eastside Rabbits and Cavies 4-H Show: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 10, Pickering Barn, 1730 10th Ave. N.W., Issaquah. This free 4-H show features rabbits and guinea pigs in competitions including a pet costume contest at noon.

Meet Your Match: February, Kitsap Humane Society, 9167 Dickey Road N.W., Silverdale. Kitsap Humane is offering 50 percent off its "longtimers." These pets have been at the shelter for a while and are ready to move into someone's heart and home. Look for the "Meet Your Match" card on the kennels when visiting the shelter. The shelter also offers Valentine's gift certificates that can be purchased in any denomination and used toward adoptions, merchandise and the microchip/vaccine clinic. Visit the shelter for details.

Rabbit Adoptions: Feb. 13-17, Seattle Animal Shelter, 2061 15th Ave. W., Seattle. Seattle Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees on the more than two dozen rabbits at the shelter and in foster homes. Some of the rabbits will be featured at this month's Cool City Pets event from 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 16 at the shelter. To meet a rabbit in foster care, email sasfostercritters@gmail.com. The waiver on the adoption fee (normally about $40 for a rabbit) was made possible through a grant from Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation.

Dogs for Cures, Diabetic Alert Dog Workshop: Feb. 16-17, Talaris Conference Center, 4000 N.E. 41st St., Seattle. Training and interactive workshops led by Rita Martinez, owner of Clickin Canines, in California and Gary Scheiner, owner and clinical director of Integrated Diabetes Services in Philadelphia. Workshop registration is $450 and due Feb. 9. Dogs for Cures is a Gig Harbor-based nonprofit dedicated to training medical service dogs for those living with diabetes. For details, see the website.

Puppy Love Pet Portraits: 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.(by appointment) Feb. 16, Community Room at Auburn Valley Humane Society, 4910 A St. S.E., Auburn. Anita of Tyson Studio will be taking photos of pets. Each $40 photo session includes a 8x10 portrait. Proceeds benefit Auburn Valley Humane. Reserve a session by calling Tyson Studio at 253-249-6694.
