Pet events: Curl up with a kitty, wash the dog or walk a pooch

It's a busy weekend with the big Pasado's Bark at Marymoor, two dog washing events, a dog show and several cat adoption events. Looking to adopt something smaller than a cat or dog? Check out the Cool City Pets event.

Scrub-a-Mutt: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 18, Strawberry Fields Athletic Complex, 6100 52nd St. N.E., Marysville. Suggested donation for a wash is $5 for a small dogs, $10 for a large dog, and $5 for nail trimming. The first 300 dogs will get goodie bags. There also will be dog agility demonstrations at 11 a. m. and a Snohomish County Sheriff's K9 demonstration at 2:30 p.m. The dog wash benefits canine-based charities.

Doggie Wash: 1-3 p.m. Aug. 18, Hawthorne Hills Veterinary Hospital, 4020 N.E. 55th St., Seattle. Dog wash with door prizes and refreshments. Donations will go toward purchasing copies of the Josh and Friends' book "I'll be O.K." for kids facing surgery for the first time.

Cool City Pets: 1-3 p.m. Aug. 18, Seattle Animal Shelter, 2061 15th Ave. W., Seattle. Meet and learn about rabbits, gerbils, hamsters and other small animals available for adoption.

Olympic Kennel Club Dog Show: 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Aug. 18-19, Enumclaw Expo Center, 45224 284th Ave. S.E., Enumclaw. About 2,000 dogs will be competing in conformation, obedience and rally. The free event also includes seminars and vendors.

Pasado's Bark at Marymoor Park: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 19, Marymoor Park (near the Velodrome), 6046 West Lake Sammamish Parkway N.E., Redmond. The benefit Bark walk starts at noon. While at the Bark, check out the games, contests, demonstrations, vendors and animal rescue groups. The walk benefits Pasado's Safe Haven. Registration is $40 minimum pledge in advance online, $50 minimum pledge at the event (starting at 10:30 a.m.).

Everett Wags & Whiskers Adoption Event: Noon-3 p.m. Aug. 19, Everett PetSmart, 1130 S.E. Everett Mall Way. Dogs and cats of all ages from six animal organizations will be available for adoption at this Animal Alliance of WA event. The animals are up to date on vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered. Adoption fees: $75-$250.

Black Cat Adoption Special: Through Aug. 30, Purrfect Pals Shelter, 230 McRae Road N.E., Arlington, and other adoption locations. Purrfect Pals is reducing the adoption fee to $50 for all black cats who are six months or older. The fee for bonded pairs that include a black cat will be reduced to $100. The cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia and have microchip IDs. Black cats are "half as likely to be adopted as other cats because they are less noticeable in cages, don't photograph well and are considered 'unlucky' by many," according to the nonprofit rescue.

Fee-Waived Senior Cat Adoptions: Through Aug. 31, PAWS Cat City, 5200 Roosevelt Way N.E., Suite B, Seattle, or PAWS Companion Animals Shelter, 5305 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood. Adoption fees are being waived for cats that are seven years and older.
