Pet events: Set sail for a weekend of fun

Have fun with your canine at a pet festival in Kirkland or on a cruise to Blake Island this weekend. If felines are more your idea of a perfect pal, check the adoption events for cats and kittens.

Kitten Adoptathon: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. July 28, Whole Foods Market-Interbay, 2001 15th Ave W., Seattle. Seattle Animal Shelter (SHS) and Alley Cat project, a local rescue group, are teaming up to move numerous kittens into homes. SHS adoption prices ($45-$135 plus license fees) include initial vaccinations, deworming, spaying or neutering, microchip ID and more. Adopt two kittens at the same time and, for this event only, the SHS adoption fees on the second kitten will be waived.

Go Dog, Go! Kirkland Canine Festival & Dog Walk: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 28, Juanita Beach Park, Kirkland. The 2-mile dog walk starts at 10:30 a.m. ($20/family). The free festival includes exhibitors, food booths, demonstrations of dog sports, Skyhoundz Disc Dogathon, microchip IDs, music, contests and other entertainment. Click the link for details.

Dog Day on Elliott Bay: 11 a.m.-5:45 p.m. July 29, Argosy Cruises, Pier 55, Seattle. Take a cruise with your pooch to enjoy the beaches and trails on Blake Island. You'll dine on at salmon bake at Tillicum Village. For the dogs, there will be box lunches provided by The Dining Dog Cafe & Bakery. $89 per adult. Dogs free. Meow in Mukilteo: Noon-3 p.m. July 29, Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Pawsitive Alliance is hosting an adoption event with eight cat rescue groups.

Vintage Cat Special: Through July 31, several locations including Purrfect Pals shelter, 230 McRae Road N.E., Arlington. Purrfect Pals is reducing its adoption fee for cats seven years or older. The reduced fee is $50 for a single cat. Bonded pairs of "vintage" cats can be adopted for $75. That's half the usual fee. The cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia and have microchip IDs.
