June pet events: Fun runs/walks, games, adoptions and parades

Lace up your sneakers, clip the leash on the pooch and get moving at one of the many runs and walks benefiting animals this month. Need more fun to fill your social calendar? Check out the pet festivals, adoption events and wine-tasting benefit.

Kitsap Humane Society PetsWalk: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. June 9, Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Benefit walk includes a vendor fair, costume and talent contests for pets, adoptable pets, agility demonstrations and a microchip ID clinic.

Mega Adoption Event: Noon-6 p.m. June 9, Petco, 318 Northeast Northgate Way, Seattle. Meet and learn about adoptable dogs and cats from Motley Zoo Animal Rescue, Purrfect Pals and other organizations.

Fabulous Felines: Noon-3 p.m. June 9, Laurelhurst Community Center, 4554 N.E. 41st St., Seattle. The Seattle Animal Shelter hosts an adoption event for cats that are ready to move from foster care to forever homes. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, Feline Leukemia testing, deworming and microchip ID.

Furry 5K Fun Run & Walk: 10 a.m. June 10, Seward Park, 5895 Lake Washington Blvd., Seattle. The 13th annual run/walk event includes entertainment and a pet expo. The event benefits the Help the Animals Fund which provides veterinary care for sick and injured animals at the Seattle Animal Shelter. The fund covered nearly $160,000 in veterinary bills last year.

There's a Cat for That: 1-4 p.m. June 10, Homeward Pet Adoption Center, 13132 N.E. 177th Place, Woodinville. Need a playful pal or a cool companion? Pawsitive Alliance, the host of this adoption event, says it has a cat for that. Several shelters and rescue organizations will be attending. All the adoptable cats are spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

Doggie Olympic Games: June 15-16, Long Beach. Check the event website for times and venues (and fun photos from past games). Saturday's games include I've Got Rhythm Musical Sit, Peanut Butter Lick, Doggie Dash, Luciano Pavarotti Commemorative Sing-off, Nadia Comaneci Agility, Babe Ruth Obedience Baseball and Filla Fuller Brush Shedding.

Dachshunds on Parade: June 16, downtown Ellensburg. The parade, in its 10th year, starts at 11 a.m. The day kicks off with Breakfast with the Dogs and continues with a costume contest, dachshund races and pet tricks.

Pug Gala: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. June 16, Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. S.E., Monroe. Seattle Pug Rescue event includes pug parade, vendors, talent, costume and kissing contests, races and agility course demonstration. Due to insurance restrictions, only pugs and pug mixes are permitted.

Dads and Dogs Parade: June 17, Fremont Fair, Seattle. Registration starts at 11 a.m. The pooch parade is at 2:30 p.m. Seattle Parks and Recreation and Citizens for Off-Leash Areas are sponsoring this event. To enter your dog, go to the Parks/COLA booth at First Avenue Northwest and North 35th Street at the Fremont Fair. The parade starts with Tubaluba brass band at the PCC Waterfront Stage.

Homeward Pet Food Bank: Noon-3 p.m. June 19 at the roll-up doors of Homeward Pet Adoption Center, 13132 NE 177th Place, Woodinville. The food bank, sponsored by Doggy Haven Resort, operates the third Tuesday of every month.

Wine Tasting and Silent Auction for Purrfect Pals: 1-5 p.m. June 23, Northwest Cellars Winery, 11909 124th Ave. N.E., Kirkland. Event benefits Purrfect Pals spay and neuter program.

Bark in Bonney Lake: 10 a.m. June 23, Allan Yorke Park, 7203 W Tapps Hwy. E., Bonney Lake. The event includes a 6 Legs/6K Run/Walk for Bark for Life, exhibits, vendors, adoptable pets and contests.

Duvall Dirty Paws Dog Walk: 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 23, McCormick Park, 26200 N.E. Stephens St., Duvall. The Dirty Paws Dog Walk and festival benefits Duvall Chamber of Commerce. There's also a separate 5K Poker Walk benefiting Homeward Pet Adoption Center and Motley Zoo Animal Rescue.
