There were 12 dogs traveling on the Titanic when it sank 100 years ago on April 15.

Information about the dogs are included in a new exhibition about Philadelphia families aboard the Titanic at the Widener University Art Gallery in Chester, Pa. according to Time.

Three dogs, all traveling in their owners cabins, survived. The nine dogs confined in the onboard kennel -- where they were walked and cared for by crewmembers -- all died.

Among those who died was a Great Dane, who owner Ann Elizabeth Isham tried to rescue. She climbed out of a lifeboat after being informed her dog was too big to join her and returned to the ship's kennel. A few days after the ship sank, her body was found by a recovery ship, clutching her beloved dog, Time says.
