Getting a dog for my dog
Posted by Gail Scott
I'd occasionally thought about adding a canine sibling for Bella Rose, my then 18-month-old, nine-pound, terrier mix, but two dogs seemed like a lot of work. And, there's always the unknown. Will they get along? How long will it take before they're fast friends, if ever? Bella was curious about Brea Joy, the eight-week-old, pound-and-a-half Shih Tzu, who joined the family, but after three days had shown no interest in anything other than an occasional sniff of her new "sister."
Finally, on day four, Bella decided to play with Brea. This video is that encounter.
p.s. A week later, Bella was not only enjoying the role of big sister, she was also playing more gently!
