Rewind: Chat with former Storm player Kate Starbird

When she graduated from Lakes High School in 1993, Kate Starbird had become one of the best women's basketball players ever to come out of the state of Washington.

She enjoyed a standout career at Stanford University and finished as the school's all-time scoring leader (since been broken). After her senior season, she was named the women's Naismith College Player of the Year in 1997.

Starbird went on to play three seasons in the ABL for the Seatle Reign and then played six years in the WNBA, including the 2002 season with the Storm.

She was inducted into the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 and is currently working toward her Ph.D at the University of Colorado at Boulder. This fall she will be an assistant professor with the University of Washington's Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering.

Starbird talked about her playing days with the Reign & Storm, her academic career and more in a live chat on Aug. 21.
