San Antonio assistant coach Brian Agler will be named the Storm's coach at a news conference at 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to multiple sources. Agler will replace Anne Donovan, who resigned on Nov. 30.
Agler served as Dan Hughes' assistant the past three seasons. When Hughes tore his right Achilles last summer, Agler assumed head-coaching responsibilities on June 16, leading the Silver Stars to an 8-2 record before the All-Star break. The team finished with a 20-14 record, losing to the eventual WNBA champion Phoenix in the Western Conference Finals.
Agler served as the head coach and general manager of the Minnesota Lynx from 1999-2002, trading Storm guard Betty Lennox in 2002 to the defunct Miami Sol. The move soured Lennox on Agler.
Donovan held both the coach and director of player personnel positions with the Storm. It is uncertain whether Agler will assume the latter title.
