Katie Benson had a double-double by halftime, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds on Thursday night to lead Seattle Pacific past South Dakota School of Mines in a nonconference women’s basketball game, 78-41.
The double-double for senior forward Benson was her fifth of the season and the 15th of her career.
She had 10 of her points and 11 of her boards through the first 20 minutes in Brougham Pavilion as Seattle Pacific took a 39-21 lead into the locker room.
Junior guard Suzanna Ohlsen added 10 points and three assists for SPU (8-1).
Jessica Shull led South Dakota Mines (3-8) with 13 points.
Seattle Pacific is now 7-0 in nonconference play.
• The Western Washington University women’s basketball team fell 69-61 to nationally-ranked Drury University on Thursday at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic. The Vikings (3-5) got a team-high 17 points from guard Katie Colard, who connected on 5 of 8 three-pointers.
Drury, ranked No. 6 in the Division II top 25 poll, is unbeaten at 8-0.
WWU never led in the contest but was within four points, 34-30, with 4:23 left in the first half. But the Lady Panthers ended the period with an 11-0 run.
• Hannah Schneiderman of Bainbridge Island was among six athletes signed to the Gonzaga women’s rowing team on Thursday. Also joining the Bulldogs next fall are Isabelle Belzil, Karly Dougherty, Ashley Patterson, Isabella Spies and Madison Spina.
