STARKVILLE, Miss. —

Martha Alwal notched her Southeast Conference-leading 15th double-double as Mississippi State upset No. 11 Georgia 50-38 Thursday night.

The win was Mississippi State's first over a ranked foe since beating No. 8 Ohio State in the 2010 NCAA tournament.

Alwal had 12 points and 14 boards, while Kendra Grant added 13 points and eight rebounds and Darriel Gaynor had 11 points for Mississippi State (13-15, 5-10).

Georgia (23-5, 11-4) shot just 18.2 percent (10 of 55), making 2 of 22 3-pointers. The 38 points marked Georgia's lowest output in the 39-game series.

Mississippi State jumped to a 12-2 advantage and grew it to 24-9 on Alwal's layup with 7:43 left until halftime. Georgia closed the half on a 13-0 run, though, and trailed just 24-22 at halftime.

Georgia trailed just 35-33 with 6:27 left, but Grant hit eight free throws as Mississippi State closed with a 15-5 run.
