LONDON —

The private contractor in charge of Olympic security has donated 2.5 million pounds (3.9 million dollars) to Britain's military.

The military had to step in at the last minute when G4S admitted it would have a staffing shortfall at the Olympics.

G4S spokesman Adam Mynott says Monday the military will donate the money to military charities.

The donation is on top of what G4S will have to pay back to the government for providing some 3,500 military personnel to make up for the shortfall.

Mynott says G4S will end up making a loss of between 35 and 50 million (78 million dollars) pounds on the Olympic contract.
