Hungary ended the 16-year dominance of Germany in the women's 500-meter K-4 event at the Olympics by winning gold Wednesday at Dorney Lake.
The Hungarian quartet of Gabriella Szabo, Danuta Kozak, Katalin Kovacs and Krisztina Fazekas won in an Olympic-best time of 1 minutes, 30.827 seconds. The Germans took silver, just ahead of Belarus in third.
It's Hungary's first gold in the event since 1992, denying Germany a fifth straight Olympic title.
The Hungarians had placed second at the past three games, but had won the last three world titles.
